Mile sur naya purana toh besur banega gaana...

Listen to both the versions of 'Mile Sur Mera Tumhara' and decide which one do you prefer.

Older Version:

Newer Version:

Part 1 of the video:

part 2:

I am somehow convinced that you would like the older version. Honestly, Mile Sur Mera Tumhara is an immortal song and I still listen to it till date. I had expected the newer version to be equally good. But alas, I am left disappointed.

Check it out. I only hope that the makers realize their mistakes and make a better video if possible. The makers should have realized that India is not made of bollywood celebrities alone (what was Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor doing in the video and what were they wearing?). The older version had featured awesome locations and assorted celebrities belonging to different walks of life. The newer version is not just 16 minutes long (original one is just 6 mins long) but it also lacks soul that the older one had. Also, the locations selected were not clear...(please tell me which place was Deepika representing in the video?).

The only part I liked in the new version was that of SalmanKhan and the ending part where the activities of the brave soldiers are highlighted. Else, the new version was pretty disappointing.

Do let me know your views. Your views and opinions will be highly appreciated.

I wanted to watch the new video. But didnt find time to tune into Zoom and wait for this thing. I was waiting for it; thanks you shared, seeing it just now.

Its very very disappointing; disgusting. Is India only Bollywood celebreties? This video looks as if it was a promotional video for celebrities and their kids and their spouses.

Where was the common man who truly represents India??

I liked the ARR, Sivamani bit. Thank goodness Rahman just stayed for few seconds in the beginning!

What were they thinking when they made Deepika wear that attire??? And thank heavens Salman was not shirtless!

Disgusting! The old one excites you and brings a sense of patriotism even to this day!! The scenes, the train in the background, those kids..I will love that song forever

Damn what were these guys thinking? The video is disgusting. These guys forgot about the different cultures and regions of India. Why take something that is already good and spoil it? And yes, i agree koi sur nahi tha!!

I am not much against this video like everyone else! Yes, India is not bollywood and Bollywood is an Indianised term for Hollywood. But at least they tried. Hehe pretty badly though. My point of view is that the video was shot nicely. :P and Salman Khan could have been given a shirt as well. Kiski pehni thi? Rupa ki ya Jockey ki?

But it doesn't give the glimpses of our country. The original one did. As one of my friends said, patriotic songs now a days are dying.

This won't be remembered as one. The original one will last till a long time.

But its 16 minutes long! 16 minutes!!! one six!

16 minutes = Almost 1000 seconds.. Who the hell has time to watch it fully?

honestly i think no matter how good they would have made the video people still would have said that it's not as good as the original one...its a problem with attempting to recreate something that is etched in the minds of the public...call it the 'old-is-gold' syndrome!

ps: it doesn't mean i like the video...its long, its boring n it almost felt like i was watching the dreadful OSO song again!!!

pps: the title of the post actually is in tune...i tried singing it n it fell in place! :o

My vote (anyday, any given point in time) to the older version.

Lessons to be learnt:-
1. DO NOT touch oldies. You touch them to do something "new" and you end up messing with everything and even with the people who love the old version.
2. Bollywood is NOT what India is all about. PERIOD.
3. Keep it short n sweet. Not like Lord Hanuman's tail.

Now to other things. Abhi n Ash: Please limit your PDAs and mush to Bollywood do's and movies. All this is getting a li'l too much. Paa: Please retire. And for heaven's sake do not sing.

In all the newer version is crappy. Its pathetic. Above all it sucks bigtime..

Here thru' Insignia post.
I too like the older version and I feel that there is no soul in the present one. Most of the actors are acting forgetting that it is a patriotic song. See earlier one, I felt that they were living it. It was more soothing. Any day I like to watch it. Sorry for taking this much space.

I am very furious after watching this video..I don't have words to express my rage..how most of the people in the video represent India and its culture? I totally second Insignia..can't write anymore..

Well My choice is obviously the Old version.. no second thoughts about it. I am not gonna say the new one is bad or wrong..

But the only problem i have with it is That it is too much Bollywood-ISED, Why should be milaoing our sur with the actors.. There are other real life heroes from whom we should take, Sports personality, Scientists, social activists..
This is what is wrong in the second video, putting people like Aishwarya rai or Abhishek in front of people like Milkha Singh, Abhinav bindra, Our x president Mr. Kalaam.. and COMMON PEOPLE..

I have problem with making the song into a gimmick bringing these guys in, no disrespect to them. But how can someone compare a Shah rukh Khan with a guy who is working his arse off in an office , the common man..

thats what has made it a BESURA SONG.. but I hope and prey Keeping these things aside .. WE get inspired the REAL MEANING of the SONG.. and take inspiration and even if the new version is BESURA we as people listening to the Words make sure that we get together and have our SUR's together for a better india, for a GREAT INDIA...

so Mille Sur hamara tumhara to BANE SUR HAMARA...

I somewhat agree with Abhinav here.. had the video been shorter by 5-8 mins., it would have created a deeper impact. And again, more than the presence of Bollywood icons, its the places that they have shot at, which is the actual bone of contention. Moreover, the culture for which India is known for did not quite come out of the newer version of MSMT. No matter who you have in your video, if the actual message does not come through, then it is anyways rendered useless.

Its was too Bollywood-ised, you said it right. It was like the producers asserting that India means Bollywood.

Thumbs down to the new one :X

But I've seen many cribbing about Kalam not being in the video. Can we expect a former President of India to sing and act in front of the camera, even if it was a national integration video? Mind it, this is private business production for making profit, I don't think the protocol allows a former first citizen to do so.

Yes I agree about Sachin, Anand or Sania not being in the video but considering that this one has got only brickbats I'm happy they were spared.

Hi Everyone,

Exactly what I felt about the new video. The makers of the video should not have played with an already perfect video. Bollywood and the irrelevant locations have taken away the beauty of the video. I hope the makers of the video take it off air.

Thanks for your response...it was overwhelming to see your response.

hey Gayathri, I have written a post on this subject too; please check it if you get the time..

I dont really get it.. I mean howcome few popular persons singing sur and all can help us in national integration.. Be it old or new.. be it celebrity or not.. how does that help???

The Salman Khan part would have been perfect if he had worn a shirt.

damn! i meant individual replies!

ST...agreed both the videos would not contribute towards national integration in nyway...but atleast the older version instilled a sense of national pride within us. The locations were so good, in the old version. The new version just lacks that beauty and even the music is listless. The song was more of a musical gem than anything and one can't deny that.

yaa hary agree with you fully on this.

BE...main bahut lazy ho gayi hoon thts y a common reply for all.

late opinion - dunno if it counts - but kahan paisa lag raha hai -opinion hi toh hai :D

i felt the new one was shot with with a better camera/ all that glitters ain't gold - agreed - but glitter soothes the eyes - the new one is visually appealing - colorful.

if the new one is glitters the old one is gold. truly indian. ever-lasting masterpiece. (wonder if anyone remembers the other song: "saur mandal mein tim tim kartey taarey aanek hai.. / par gunj ta hai jaho disha mein../ dil ki dhadkan ek hai/ apna chaman ek hai/ dil ki dhadkan ek hai" I loved this song too. Most of my friends don't recognize this song.)

but i had one grudge against the the old one - they showed oriya people as some junglee nomads. the new one at least soothes me.

The only thing I liked in the new one was the way Zakir played the tabla.

I too like the older one. The new one is such a disappointing one.

Btw, I too liked Salman's portion. It was the only element I liked in it.

ya i agree with u

yes i toally agree wit u dat nothing can touch the older version. purana was an amalgamation of acievers from all the fields. but the naya version is only about bollywood. when will people come out of this mentality of thinking that today its only bout bollywood and cricket.

And i also liked the salman khan wala and the indian army wala section. that was the only section that i could connect with
